TEMPTATION EXPLOITS INNER DESIRE
Do you know enemy cannot create desire? but he can exploit it. Temptation does not usually begin on the outside; it begins on the inside. The enemy simply works with what is already present. *You can be smarter than the devil!
James makes it personal: he said, every man is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires. In other words, *temptation finds its hook where unguarded appetite already exists* .“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.”_
The bait only works because something in us wants it. A fish is not caught because the hook is *clever* , but because the bait looks *appealing*
That is why *spiritual maturity* is not just about resisting external pressure; it is about managing internal desires. What you consistently feed will eventually become strong enough to lead you. *Be on your guard!*
Uncontrolled desire is like giving a toddler the car keys, exciting for a moment, but disastrous in the long run. The goal is not merely to *avoid temptation* , but to cultivate desires that honour God. *When your heart is full of the right things, the wrong things become less attractive.*
Reflection
– What desires in my life make me most vulnerable to temptation?
– Am I *feeding my spirit* more than my *appetites* ?
Prayer
Father, search my heart and reveal every desire that does not align with Your will. Help me to discipline my appetites and to delight in what pleases You. Strengthen my inner man, so that my desires will serve Your purpose and not sabotage my destiny. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
