DON’T ENVY, PREPARE!

It is better to be single, hoping to be married than to be married, praying to be single (Ecclesiastes 3:1). *Marriage needs to be approached with some soberness, not just excitement (Proverbs 4:7).*

Some singles need to be told that just as they envy married people, some married people also envy them, even though they may not tell them (1 Corinthians 7:25-29). *Am I saying this to discourage you from getting married? Not at all.*

Marriage is sweet, enjoyable, and a blessing. But it also comes with its burdens and responsibilities. *It is better to face marriage with a mindset of responsibility than with just a mindset of excitement (Ecclesiastes 10:15).* Wedding is a day, but marriage is a lifetime.

*Marriage is work. Making marriage work is work.* You need people who think straight and logically, as much as you need those who are excited (Proverbs 31:1-9). *Unfortunately, most single people run away from people like that.* They see them as being too serious.

*You cannot be too serious about marriage.* Seriousness does not mean you are tight-faced. It simply means approaching life with the right information, preparation, and determination (1 Timothy 4:15). *It is better to prepare for marriage than to repair your marriage.*

DIRECTION OVER POSITION

I recently saw a pastor celebrating his wife online. His words stuck with me: _”When nobody believed in me, you stood firm against the haters and doubters. When I was a nobody, you saw potential and chose me.”_ His heartfelt praise hit home – choose direction over position.

*Choose direction over position. Before you join anything or anyone, check the direction. Don’t let the position fool you. Like Lot, the land may appear green, but it might have been marked out for destruction (Genesis 13:10). *Don’t choose by sight. Walk by faith (2 Corinthians 5:7).*

Not all opportunities are your opportunities; some are satanic traps in disguise (Proverbs 14:12). *You must not be so desperate to get married that you fall into the hands of the wrong guy.* You must not be so desperate to get a job that you never cared to find out if God is involved (Isaiah 28:16).

*Direction is more important than position.* You don’t judge a man or a thing

by where he (it) is but by where he (it) is going. *Lot chose for himself, and he later regretted it (Genesis 13:10-13).* What about you? Will you choose for yourself or let God choose for you?

*God knows tomorrow more than you know yesterday.* Don’t lean on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). *We don’t just follow opportunities. We follow God.* Wherever God is for us is where our opportunity lies even when it does not look like it at the moment.

*God still guides people into the right relationship, the right job, business, etc. (Isaiah 30:20-21).* Don’t wave away warning signals or the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Go for counsels. Pray intensely. Exercise some patience and caution (Proverbs 14:12, Isaiah 28:16).

Let God guide you.

HANDLING PROGRESS WITH HUMILITY

You need to handle progress with humility (1 Peter 2:9-10). Your humility is seen in how you relate with those coming behind you. Do you assume superiority or stay humble? *Whether in career, marriage, or ministry, don’t relate with those who are just starting as though you are an expert (Ephesians 2:8-13).*

Until you learn to manage your own journey with God with some caution, you will be a victim of pride and presumption (2 Corinthians 13:5, Philippians 2:12-13). *If you don’t learn this early, God will humble you by promoting those who seem lesser than you (2 Chronicles 18:23).*

You might look at someone who has just started a business, blazing the trail while you are frustrated in the same business (Ecclesiastes 10:15, 1 Corinthians 15:10). You have known too much history and lost sight of the future.

No matter how early or late you start out in life, you need to remain a learner (John 5:30). *None of us will graduate from learning. The only expert is God – He’s the perfection of beauty.* We are all still improving one way or another. Decades of marriage don’t equal marital bliss.

Sometimes, you need to learn from newcomers. Like Apostle Paul, they often come with new ideas, directions, and zeal

(1 Corinthians 15:8-10). Paul eventually outran those ahead of him. He stayed humble and open to learning (Philippians 3:10-14). *What about you? Are you handling progress with humility?*

WHAT WE CAN PRAY FOR BUT CANNOT PRAY AWAY

“Same problems but different generations but same God”

There are things we cannot pray to stop happening but we can pray for exception in our lives. If you like pray 100hours, it will still happen but may not come near you. For example, You cannot pray to stop tribulations from happening on earth. Jesus Himself said, ‘ You will face tribulation’ that means, nobody lives on earth without any challenges. Your location may vary your challenges but challenges are consant.

You cannot also pray for offence not to happen but you can pray to live above offence because Jesus said, ‘ Offence ought to come’. People will always provoke, misunderstand, misinterpret your words, abuse or misuse you or the opportunity given to them, but you can choose to stay offence free.

You cannot use prayer to stop deception from happening, but  you can use prayer to discern. Jesus said’ many will be deceived’. You are the one to learn discernment to live above deception. Having PhD does not stop you from being deceived but allowing His Spirit to reveal the deep things of God to you.

You cannot use prayer to stop famine but you can pray for wisdom to create your exception and your wealth. For He said,’ the poor you will always have’. There was famine in the days of Abraham, Issac and Jacob, till the days of Apostles and our days.

There are many more that prayers won’t stop from happening like death, temptation, wickedness etc. Just know these and have peace early in your life.

” In Christ alone our hope is.

For in Him, we live, move and have our being”
