JUST THIS ONCE…
Sin rarely says, “Come, let me ruin your life.” No! It sounds much nicer. It whispers, “Just this once.”
- Just one message.
- Just one look.
- Just one drink.
- Just one lie.
- Just one night.
- Just one compromise.
Because it sounds small, we don’t take it seriously. But small compromises can open big doors. What starts as curiosity can become a habit, and what starts as a habit can become a stronghold. What you thought you could control may eventually start controlling you.
“Fools mock sin [but sin mocks the fools]…” — Proverbs 14:9 (AMP)
Temptation has excellent customer service. It gives you the trial version for free, then sends the consequences later. Don’t wait until the bill arrives before you realize the “free trial” wasn’t free.
“Just this once” can quickly become, “How did I get here?”
Friend, listen to me: sin has a hook, and you can’t afford to toy with it.
“Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” — 1 Corinthians 10:12
You don’t have to prove how close you can get to sin. Wisdom knows when to walk away. Prevention is always safer and cheaper than the cure (if a cure exists at all).
Reflection
What have I been calling “just this once” that I already know I should stop?
Prayer
Father, give me the wisdom to recognize temptation early. Help me refuse small compromises before they become strongholds. Give me the strength to walk away from anything that can pull me away from You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Don’t negotiate with temptation. Stop it before it stops your life!
