Sometimes God Leaves the Enemy There

Here is a vital truth we must anchor ourselves in: Your relationship with God is far more important than monitoring the activities of your critics.

Too often, believers expend energy trying to eliminate every source of opposition from their lives. Meanwhile, God may have already reserved those very critics a front-row seat to your ultimate testimony.

When we face resistance, our immediate prayer is frequently:

“Lord, why don’t You remove my enemies?”

Sometimes, God’s quiet response is simply:

“Because I am using them.”

Purpose in the Pressure

Not every enemy is sent to destroy you; some are permitted to develop you.

God often uses opposition as an instrument for spiritual maturity:

Pressure builds perseverance.

Opposition strengthens your conviction.

Criticism teaches deep humility.

Consider the biblical narrative:

Without Goliath, the world might never have known the name David.

Without Pharaoh, Israel would not have witnessed the magnitude of God’s mighty deliverance.

Without jealous brothers, Joseph may never have been propelled into the Egyptian palace.

As the Psalmist boldly declares:

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies…” — Psalm 23:5 (NKJV)

The Stage for God’s Glory

Notice carefully what David wrote. God did not prepare the table after the enemies disappeared—He set it in their very presence.

God does not always remove the obstacle; sometimes He uses it as the backdrop for His glory.

Your breakthrough does not depend on universal approval; it requires divine favor. When God’s grace is upon your life, external opinion loses its power.

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” — Romans 8:31

It is time to shift our prayer focus. Stop praying simply for every critic to vanish, and start praying that God’s sovereign purpose will be fulfilled through every circumstance you face.

Sometimes, the greatest testimony is not that your enemies were swept away—it is that you kept flourishing right before their eyes. Don’t be distracted by the audience; stay focused on your walk with God. He knows exactly how to prepare your table.

Take a moment to evaluate your current season:

Am I asking God to remove people when He may actually be using the situation to refine and grow me?

What spiritual lesson is God teaching me through my current opposition?

A Prayer for the Journey

Father, give me the grace to trust You even when opposition remains around me. Help me not to be distracted by those who stand against me, but to keep my eyes fixed entirely on You.

Let every challenge become a living testimony of Your faithfulness, and prepare the table You have promised in Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
